You Can Really Catch Fish Using the Finest Fishing Vessel Parts

by Craig Petersen

These days, sport fishing is very popular and people of all ages and both sexes seem to be taking it up. Very often, people are fishing by simply standing or sitting on the shore and casting a baited line. Then, they wait for a fish to bite. At some point in the fishing experience, a person who appreciates angling will probably want to try fishing from a boat.

Many avid anglers have boats made exclusively to be fishing vessels. Such people seem to place all kinds of equipment on their boats. These fishing vessel parts aren’t always required, but they do enhance the fun of fishing.

Out of all the many options, a few really stand out. Following is a list of some of these fishing vessel parts avid fishermen seem to prefer on their boats.

First, there are fish finders. These devices can be very basic and simply show the location of the fish in the water, should they can be able to be detected. Usually, fish finders perform by detecting the air in fish bladders; and, the display then shows where the fish are to be found.

Additionally, more advanced fish finders are able to show structures where fish may be hiding. They may even display the locations of fish known as “bait fish”. These places are where sport fish are known to feed.

Among the most preferred fishing vessel parts is sonar. This isn’t the same as a fish finder. However, many items besides fish can be detected under water. Sonar works when cone-shaped pulses of sound are propelled downward at different frequencies many times a second. The sounds will bounce off objects under water. Sonar is of value to fishing vessels since it can detect underwater ledges or dropoffs. Sonar makes it possible for anglers to know what the bottom looks like and if there are any places where fish may be hiding.

A Global Positioning System (GPS) is another one of the most popular fishing vessel parts. Lots of anglers are familiar with their destination when traveling by boat; but, if this is not the case, then a GPS system will come in very handy. Using a GPS system allows people out fishing on a boat to explore more areas of water and to mark their favorite fishing spots instead of just hoping that they can locate those places again in the future. The GPS tracks the boat’s location and provides anglers a way of knowing precisely where they are. Also, GPS units work with either internal or external antennas.

Since different species of fish prefer to remain at specific depths, depth detectors are also popular fishing vessel parts. Experienced fishermen will generally know which species stay at a certain depth, and depth detectors are great for finding their prey.

Most of these fishing vessel parts are used easily when they are mounted on the boat. Also, many of these devices will work well in conjunction with each other. Some of these fishing vessel parts can be used at the same time to aid in tracking the location of fish. Consequently, many boating anglers will want some or all of these enhancements aboard when they are searching for the big one.

How To Get Outstanding Flyfishing Header Graphics

by Craig Petersen

All Right, so you’re a fanatic about flyfishing, and you need to produce a outstanding website to show the public your genius. Or you’re expecting to sell your exceptional flyfishing products, or to market your accomplishments in your neighborhood as a flyfishing guide. Whatever your rationality for needing to create a site, there is one matter you truly need to dress it up: a flyfishing header graphic that stands out from the rest. There are two basic means to get one: hire someone to plan a beautiful unique header for you, or create it yourself.

The Hiring Route

If your gifts lie more in sportfishing than in graphics, you in all likelihood should go forward and engage a pro to design your flyfishing header. Start with getting an idea of the particular graphics you want: do you have images, or do you want a more lively look? Is there a focus you want to promote your business enterprise, or are you open to ideas? Is it just a header, or are you searching for something that goes up one side and across the top, hugging your content?

Once you know what you want to see, it’s time to line up your graphic designer. You can search in dozens of places: Elance, for instance, furnishes you with independent graphic designers for hire at reasonable prices. RentACoder is another first-class site to hire freelance talent, or GetAFreelancer. At these sites, you can either put your job out for bid, and select the freelancer you like the best, or you can look through hundreds of portfolios and solicit a freelancer straightaway.

If money’s not a problem, locate some internet sites with great looks - not only fishing sites, but other action sites as well - and email the site owner, requesting him to recommend the artist to you. It’s rare that they will turn you down.

Consider, though, if you’re going to have somebody create your graphics for you, that you may save some money in the long run and end up with a genuinely great looking site if you employ them to do an entire theme, with buttons and smaller variations of your flyfishing header graphics, instead of only a flyfishing header.

Do It Yourself

If you’re a do-it-yourself kind of individual and you do possess some artistic talent, there are some excellent programs out there that you can use to make your flyfishing header artwork. Begin, though, by charting out exactly what your header should look like, using graph paper to keep you in line. When you have a clear vision, start shopping.

For photo-realistic effects, you can’t beat Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Either delivers great graphical capabilities, optimize pictures for the Web, and Paint Shop Pro has a fantastic utility named a picture tube that drops series of images on your sheet for you. You can discover great pictures at sites like istockphoto or stock.xchng, or you can find free GIF images at sites like gif.com to use in your header. With good planning, you may be able to design a flyfishing header that suits your intentions just fine.

Choosing Your Fly Fishing Waders

Fly fishing waders can be a very important piece of fishing gear if you plan to spend quite a bit of time fly fishing in cold temperatures – both climate-wise and water-wise. Waders perform two basic but very important functions for you – they keep you dry and warm whether you are wading in a deep pond with cold water in its depths or a shallow stream in freezing cold weather.

Thanks to technology, these days you have an abundant supply of fly fishing waders to choose from in a variety of materials from reliable nylon to neoprene to specially created compounds that allow your body to wick away sweat and excessive body heat while still keeping you dry and protected. Of course, choosing from the different fly fishing waders will largely depending on your needs and budget.

Evaluating your Needs

First of all, do you actually need fly fishing waders for your fishing excursions, especially if you are in a warm area which also has warm waters? The job of waders is to keep you both dry and warm so unless you have an aversion to being wet for any length of time, you may not need any fly fishing waders for the warmer climate and waters.

However, cooler climates and those bodies of water which have cold depths require fly fishing waders to protect you by retaining your body heat and repelling for a warm, dry, comfortable experience. Extreme fly fishing temperatures like fishing for trout in the midst of a Vermont winter or salmon in the icy streams of Alaska call for the best waders that you can afford.

Types to Choose from

There are three basic types of fly fishing waders to choose from and they often incorporate different materials in their core design. You can choose from stocking foot waders, boot foot waders or even hip waders for your fly fishing experience and each have their own quirks.

Boot foot waders expand out from your foot all the way up to your chest and the boot portion that covers the foot is permanently adhered to the wader. The best reason to choose the boot foot fly fishing waders is that you wouldn’t have to purchase wading boots separately. The stocking foot waders do not have the boot but are instead neoprene socks which must then be covered by wading boots that you purchase separately.

Hip waders are exactly as they sound – they extend up to the hips and are perfect for traversing in shallow waters with a slow current. Some types of these fly fishing waders have boots attached to them and some do not so it is all a matter of your comfort and needs as to which hip wader version to choose.

As you can see, there are a few variables to consider when shopping around for fly fishing waders so be sure you know exactly what you want. Try on different types of waders and examine the different materials before settling on one particular pair.

If Fish Could Talk

by Rick London

As a middle aged man, approaching minnowpause, a good many folks think I’m mentally eel. My theory though is that I’ve haddock with life, not unlike Salmon Rushdie or Marlin Brando. Mahi oh mahi. Since I’ve always marched to a different drummer, you know, or sang like Tuna Turner. I live down on squid roe. and been a shad bit egocentric, people have tried desperately to save my sole. Holy mackerel, if I could count the times. Those bassturds. They just perch up on their high seahorse and talk down to me as if I’m pond scum. So what’s it all about, Algae? You may think I’m shellfish and cruel but read between the line, or bass hook, or swivel.

For awhile I tried corporate America and I played a rather decent upwardly-mobile guppy. I made a great deal of money but always felt crappie. You may grunter at my humor but who are you to judge? Take your fathead elsewhere. I’m not just another John Dory writer, you know.

So soon, I was swimming with the sharks and swam back to shore. Nay, I was no angelfish, that is for sure, but I was sturdy as a rockfish. Like othe baby boomer, I was striving to be an upwardly mobile guppy. I am certain a lot of my problems is that I listened to too many rock bands in my youth and don’t follow direction well due to my being hard of herring. I do have faith; I’m not one of those agnostic fish-types who PONDers if Cod even exists up way up in the heavens.

More than once, in fact lox of times, I would start a project early in the yearling, and never finish it. This only served to bait the public into calling me a sucker(fish) or even worse!! I can stand the heat. Nobody can lure me unless I let them. I know how to take care of myself. I left home at age 15 and was an urchin ever since. The streets are hard for a fighting fish but I made it after all. Many times I was on the bream of success and blew it just like any blowfish would do. One time I even trout for major league football (no kidding) during the USA league. They laughed me off the field treating me in a clownfish manner. I didn’t like it at all.

But I’m a nice guy to know. Anyone who doesn’t care to know me is “that’s their net loss”. It’s my own fish philosophy; well I actually plagiarized it from decarp “I swim therefore I am wet.” And to them I simply say “Caviar Emptor”, and yes, even Carp Diem (as obvious a fish pun as it may be…but I digress into deeper waters)…. But in my own way, the world is my oyster and nobody can take that away from me. I continue to have a porpoise in life and really, isn’t that what counts? I could have turned out evil like Jack The Flipper but noo. I became an outstanding citizen nevertheless. They will never make me walk the plankton. Some of my story may be sardinonic but that is the way it goes. It helps me cope through the rough seas. But I’m no shrimpleton.

Change happens whether we like it or not. And I will think of a new philosophy as soon as I have time to mullet over. But I will. Because I’m the reel thing more real to my mom than Maggie was to ROD Stewart. You can count on that. I may fail a lot but when I throw a strike, no catfish hunter has a thing on me. So when I change no neon tetra light is going to go off. It will be a gradual thing. And I’m not sea lion either. I am truthful; hook line and thinker. This is no moray-eel issue. It is one I will always scrapple with.

FYI: No underwater creatures were injured and killed during the writing of this article; at least not on porpoise. I would sing like whale-on jennings before I hurt a fellow fish.

Exploit Carp Feeding Modes For Big UK Carp Catches!

by Tim Richardson

Few carp fishermen realise that fish can switch their modes of feeding and you can exploit these and manipulate these to catch more fish! In fact you can make fish feed in the specific way you want by the form and size of baits you introduce as ground bait or chum making it ideal for far more natural and confident feeding leading to more bites.

Blood worms (and jokers) are notorious natural baits known for being banned owing to their extreme success at match venues. This is a good lesson to all carp anglers in how carp feed and exploit their modes of feeding. Fish like carp can feed in many ways, from dashing about after fry, to slowly sifting through silt for many hours with their heads totally buried. It makes logical sense to get to know exactly what your fish is eating at what time of day or night, where and why in order to fully exploit the form of feeding used at any point in time, or to even induce the one you wish the carp to use in order perhaps to hook them more easily by leveraging special bait formats and ingredients.

Many carp anglers do not realise carp can feed on items as small as algae and tiny zooplankton crustaceans, even under a millimetre in size and derive extremely significant nutrition from such small organisms. These are very rich foods and are often exploited when fluctuations of populations are especially favourable and in spring and summer help in the time leading up to and after spawning. The success of fine particulate feeds like fine fish meal and bread crumb ground baits in many ways echo this mode of feeding which in this case can occur at any level in the water or sediment.

You can exploit various feeds and fine liquid additives with particles in suspension to induce this kind of feeding, although there are many endless options for doing this effectively and yeast and liver powders and corn steep liquor and various less refined fish oils are obvious examples to begin with. Fish can taste their food using taste buds located in their pharyngeal cavity so this form of feeding is not sight oriented but taste oriented. Using induced filter and pump filter (gulping type feeding,) fish can get the nutritional stimulation of your free and hook baits without actually touching your baits but then having filter fed on them will often be in a far more excited physiological and mental state when they actually physically feed on them and carp filter feed predominantly in turbid waters.

Filter feeding is very interesting because fish like carp can gain masses of nutrients to promote their growth in safe ways without eating your baits. But they can also derive nutrients from your baits in suspension and in solution as they leach out amino acids, nucleic acids, oils and slats for instance, without actually eating your baits. So it makes sense to drive fish into a feeding frenzy mode as far as possible by inciting this natural feeding mode.

Bass and trout and even carp, bream and fish like crappie roach and barbel all filter feed to different degrees. This finely adjusted feeding is achieved using what is called the branchial sieve structures which are adjusted in order to energy efficiently exploit more abundant nutritious food particles and natural organisms. Carp can even suction filter feed at least an equal head length away from its head which is similar in energy and movement efficiency as a sheep seen feeding on grass on its knees although fish use far less energy in general movement compared to terrestrial animals not supported in water.

Not all attention should be placed upon the chemical sensing of food items as with carp as other sense may also predominate including sight and even electrical lateral line detection of the tiny movements in the water of zooplankton! In the case of bait size, the diameter of the fish’s mouth is not always the limiting factor in certain feeding details, but in fact the diameter of the throat where chewing of food takes place. Small items are more natural to feed on for carp for much of the year round except at times when larger nutritious items are abundant such as fry in spring and molluscs like larger snails in the autumn etc.

Smaller food items can naturally be passed to the throat teeth in mouthfuls without any problem and of course the more energy efficient the food delivery system is the better. It can often be the case that small baits are the preferred choice of more experienced big fish anglers because they can see the benefits of smaller food items in regards how fish feed on such baits and also their more natural weight, size and movement in water when combined with a correctly balanced hook rig. I find boilies in the 6 to 8 millimetre size excellent for bigger more wary fish even with huge mouths!

How many big carp get hooked by match anglers at the end of a day of baiting up constantly with tiny pouches of fine bread crumb and fish meal and tiny micro pellet ground baits; it happens far more often than carp anglers like to imagine. The constant ground baiting is one factor along with the fine tackle they use, but mostly, match anglers are offering carp the ideal form of ground bait to exploit their natural filter feeding modes. Literally matching up your bait to the feeding modes of fish and even influencing which mode and feeding intensity occurs can seriously improve your catches all season; it just takes a little bait know-how…
