There is a huge selection of poker chips for you to choose from. On Yahoo Shopping alone you will find 29,000 results when you look for poker chips. However there are really only 3 sorts that you need to concern yourself about. They are; clay plastic and composite. As there are advantages and disadvantages to each type so you will need to do some research before you buy. Here are some pointers for you.
Plastic
Plastic are pretty low class when it comes to poker chips. They will nto raise any stir among your poker playing friends and certainly will not support any tricks. You can get them at a cheap price from your local Wal-Mart. You can also dispose of them whenever you want.
Nevertheless they have their uses. If you are throwing a one time poker party they are ideal.
Composite
These chips are pretty cheap and will last a long time. They are easy to clean, especially if compared to clay poker chips. Whereas clay chips will only last 5-6 years maximum composite ones will last forever.
So what is the disadvantage? Well they simply do not feel like the authentic casino chips, and they do not have that beautiful clink. They are just missing something as far as poker enthusiasts are concerned.
Clay
Clay poker chips are the king of the hill as far as poker chips go. These guys are what the big boys use. When you go to Vegas and grab a stack of chips, you’re grabbing a stack of clay chips.
So what is the lure of these chips? The look and feel of them is enough to set a poker lover’s heart racing but the sound will really be the pinnacle of excitement.
However clay chips will cost you time and money. You will need to baby these beauties by washing them and oiling them every few months, to preserve them. When you really take excellent care of them they will last 5-6 years. However if you neglect them they will deteriorate fast. If you get clay chips you must take care of your investment.
Whatever type of chip you get will be determined by what you are going to use it for. Do you want authentic chips or just a one night stand. Be sure to do your research and make an educated choice.
